Why Home Visits Can Make All the Difference
At All Pets, we believe that great veterinary care shouldn’t be stressful – for pets or their people. That’s why our Fear Free approach is at the heart of everything we do, helping animals feel calmer, safer, and more comfortable during every visit.
And for some pets, the best place to do that isn’t in the clinic at all – it’s at home.
What Does “Fear Free” Mean?
A Fear Free approach focuses on reducing stress, anxiety, and fear before, during, and after a vet visit. It means taking time – not rushing appointments -and reading every animal’s body language so we can tailor the experience to them.
That might look like:
- Giving a nervous dog a few minutes to sniff the room before starting their check-up
- Using calming pheromone sprays, soft voices, and gentle handling techniques
- Offering treats, breaks, or even a few belly rubs if that’s what helps them relax
- Letting cats stay in the bottom of their carrier if that’s where they feel safest
- Using topical anaesthetic creams or anxiety medication when needed to make procedures stress-free
We’re firm believers that vet visits shouldn’t feel like a battle – they should feel safe.

Why Home Visits Can Be the Perfect Fit
Home visits aren’t the right option for every appointment, but they can make a world of difference in the right situations.
Some pets simply feel calmer, braver, and more themselves when they don’t have to leave their familiar surroundings – and that’s when we bring the All Pets experience to you.
Home visits are particularly beneficial for:
Senior pets – who may struggle with mobility or find travel stressful.
Cats – especially those who dislike carriers, car journeys, or waiting rooms (which, let’s be honest, is most cats).
Multi-pet households – where coordinating travel for everyone can be a challenge.
Nervous or anxious pets – who benefit from being examined somewhere they feel safe.
End-of-life care – where comfort, dignity, and peace matter most.
It’s not about convenience (though it certainly helps) – it’s about compassion.
What to Expect During a Home Visit
We bring the same level of care, equipment, and attention you’d expect in our clinic – just in a more relaxed setting. A typical visit might include:
- A calm, unhurried consultation – giving your pet time to get comfortable
- Physical exams, vaccinations, blood pressure checks, or basic diagnostics
- Sample collection (yes, even blood and urine can often be taken stress-free at home!)
- Gentle reassurance and positive reinforcement throughout
Our goal is to make the experience as natural and Fear Free as possible – for both you and your pet.
A Real-Life Example: Leo’s Story
One of our long-time feline patients, Leo, a 17-year-old ginger gentleman, has always hated travelling to the vets. By visiting him at home, we’ve been able to carry out blood pressure checks and blood tests without the stress of a car ride or unfamiliar surroundings.
He stays in his favourite sunny spot, we chat, offer a few gentle strokes, and before he knows it – it’s all done. The result? More accurate readings, a happier cat, and a very relieved human.

Is a Home Visit Right for You?
If your pet becomes anxious before every vet trip, hides when the carrier comes out, or simply finds travel difficult, a home visit could be a wonderful option.
We’ll always advise what’s best depending on your pet’s needs – some procedures are still better handled in-clinic, but for many day-to-day check-ups and routine care, home visits are a calm and kind alternative.
Final Thought
Fear Free isn’t a buzzword – it’s a belief.
Every animal deserves to feel safe, understood, and cared for with patience and respect.
Whether that’s in our St Peter’s practice or in the comfort of your living room, our mission remains the same:
Less rush. More reassurance.
