Since taking on the practice, Emily and Ruth have substantially reinvested in the purpose-built clinic. Despite the initial challenges of the Covid pandemic, we have thrived and are now looking to expand our team of vets to 4. We would love a surgeon with soft tissue and orthopaedic experience to help drive the surgical side of the practice. We have plenty of surgical kit available including TPLO and are more than willing to invest in the right equipment to develop our surgical service.
We really do have a wonderful close-knit team. Alongside Emily and Ruth is Georgia who joined the team in 2023, Georgia has a special interest in diagnostic imaging. The rest of our clinical team currently consists of 6 RVNs, 1 SVN and 2 VCAs, and our support team of 3 receptionists and 2 administrators. The community feel that island life brings is never more noticeable than when our clients pop in for a chat or invite us round for coffee. When one of our lovely clients heard we were looking for a vet she even offered to head off to vet school so she could help!!
It’s very much a team decision when we make changes and these are discussed at our monthly ‘Health on the twelfth’ meetings when we block out the diary for the day so we can all get together to share ideas over pizza. We really value everyone’s opinion and everyone gets to have a say in our ongoing development and how to drive the practice forwards.
We have all the equipment you would expect from a smaller practice that aims to offer gold-standard care including Sonoscape ultrasound with linear probes and doppler, 2 brand new video endoscopes, digital and dental x-ray, multiparameter monitors, a slit lamp and tonometry. We also have access to CT and MRI on the island too. We have a well equipped in-house Idexx laboratory and use their cloud based PIMS Animana.
